Z Day – Popular Music Artists Starting With Letter Z
You may notice Z Day is not celebrated on December 31. Rather it is celebrated on January 1. Why? Because people with their names starting with “Z” typically go last.
They can celebrate the first day of the new year by doing everything first!
My way of celebrating the day is to provide you with a list of popular music artist names starting with “Z”.

Zac Brown (Band)

Zac Brown was born Zachry Alexander Brown on July 31, 1978, in Dahlonega, Georgia. He is the frontman, lead guitarist, and lead vocalist for the country-rock group known as the Zac Brown Band.
16 of their singles have appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
11 of them climbed to the top of the chart:

Zakk Wylde

Musician, singer, and songwriter Zakk Wylde was born Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt on January 14, 1967, in Bayonne, New Jersey. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and actor.
Zakk is perhaps best known as the ex-guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and his trademark bulls-eye design as seen on many of his guitars. He founded the heavy metal band Black Label Society. Zakk was also the lead guitarist and vocalist in the band Pride & Glory.

Zara Larsson

Zara (Maria) Larsson, is a singer-songwriter born on December 16, 1997, in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden. First thrust into the spotlight in 2008 when she won the Swedish version of “Got Talent” known as “Talang”.
She continued performing independently until 2012 when she scored a contract with the record label TEN Music Group. Zara released her debut album, an EP titled “Introducing” in 2013.
Her song “Uncover” hit number one in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Both the EP and single went platinum within a month. She signed with Epic Records in April of that year.
Zayn

Zayn was born Zain Javadd Malik on January 12, 1993, in Bradford, England. He is a singer, songwriter, and occasional actor. He is best known as a (former) member of the boy band One Direction.
While with the group, Malik, and his mates released four albums including 2011’s ‘Up All Night’ and 2014’s ‘Four’. His premiere album as a solo artist, “Mind of Mine” was released earlier this year. The lead single, “Pillowtalk”, topped the charts in several countries.
Malik became the first Brit male artist to enter both the U.S. and U.K. charts with his debut single and LP.
Zenda Jacks
Singer, songwriter, and musician Zenda Jacks was born Suzie McCloskey on May 7, 1955, in Wednesbury, West Midlands, England. Sometimes known as the “Goddess of Rock”, she began her career in 1974 with her first single “Rub My Tummy”. 1975 follow-up single was titled “Earthquake”.
She went disco with her final solo single the 1976 “Do You Love Me”. Zenda joined the German disco trio Silver Convention in 1977. She sang lead vocals and did a duet with Jerry Rix on the single “Spend The Night With Me”.
Zendaya

Zendaya was born Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman on September 1, 1996, in Oakland, California. She is a singer, dancer, and actress. On August 8, 2012, she signed with Hollywood Records.
Zendaya released two singles on an Indie label titled “Swag It Out” and “Watch Me.” The latter was recorded with Bella Thorne and was included on Disney’s Break It Down soundtrack album.
In 2012 she released the promo single “Something to Dance For” which is on the Disney soundtrack Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance. She released her self-titled premiere album in 2013.

Ziggy Marley

Singer, songwriter, and musician Ziggy Marley was born David Nesta Marley on October 17, 1968, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Marley first came to fame as the frontman for his band Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers which was founded in 1979. Their first recording was the song “Children Playing in the Streets” which was written by Marley’s father four years earlier.
Ziggy’s first solo CD, ‘Dragonfly’, hit stores in 2003. ‘Love Is My Religion’ followed in 2006. It scored a Grammy for “Best Reggae Album.”
His 2009 album, ‘Family Time’, garnered a Grammy for “Best Musical Album for Children.”
Zola Jesus

Zola Jesus is a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. She was born Nika Roza Danilova on April 11, 1989, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Her first singles were released in 2008. Zola’s hit singles were titled “Poor Sons” and “Soeur Sewer”.
Zola’s signature sound is a musical mix of multiple genres including classical, electronic, goth, industrial, and synthpop.
Her resume includes a trio of EPs and five full-length studio albums with her release, ‘Taiga’ in 2014.
Warren Zevon

The late rock singer, songwriter, and musician Warren (William) Zevon was born on January 24, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois.
Some of his best songs include “Werewolves of London”, “Lawyers, Guns and Money”, and “Johnny Strikes Up the Band” – all of which are off his 1978 album, ‘Excitable Boy’.
Zevon died on September 7, 2003.

Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie is a singer, musician, screenwriter, film director, and producer. He was born Robert Bartleh Cummings on January 12, 1965, in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Rob first caught the public eye as the founder of the heavy metal band White Zombie. His first solo work was a track titled “Hands of Death (Burn Baby Burn)” with Alice Cooper. It was released in 1996 and was nominated for “Best Metal Performance” at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards.
Zombie’s first solo album, ‘Hellbilly Deluxe’, came out in 1998. He also released Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor’ which hit the airwaves in 2013.
ZZ Top
ZZ Top was formed in Houston, TX in 1969. The original band members are vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard, and vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill.
The band played together for more than 50 years until Hill’s death in 2021. A few of their biggest hits include “Tush”, “La Grange”, “Legs”, “Gimme All Your Lovin'”, and “Sharp Dressed Man”.
In 2004, the members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
