Money Dance Songs (Dollar Dance): Trending Hits to Cash In

Updated November 14, 2023 | Author: Matthew Campbell

“It takes money, (Dollar bill y’all, dollar bill y’all)” to go on a honeymoon, if you pardon the quote from Jimmy Spicer. But that doesn’t mean that the dollar dance is bad. It’s a fun way to celebrate the wedding couple and to get some extra face time.

So, what are the best songs to play? I got you.

Money Dance Wedding Songs

When picking out the songs for the money dance, you must consider the following 3 factors:

  1. Do the songs have a special meaning to both of you?
  2. Will your guests dance to the song with you?
  3. What is the tempo of the song (fast or slow) to determine the style of dance that fits best?

As an experienced wedding DJ, I’ve assembled a list of songs for the money dance. Songs are selected by the meaning of the song and popular hits by today’s brides. Songs are also grouped by genre to match your taste in music.

FAQs

The dollar dance or money dance at a wedding reception is a bit controversial in our American culture.

The concept behind the money dance is that the men pay for the opportunity to dance with the bride and the women pay for the opportunity to dance with the groom.

The money is typically saved for the wedding couple’s honeymoon.

This tradition is a fun way to get one-on-one time during the wedding reception with the bride and groom.

The good thing is that it works for same-sex couples, too. Generally, people line up to dance to part of the song, and dollar bills are either pinned to the dress or there is a bag.

There is no difference between the honeymoon dance and the dollar dance. However, the “honeymoon dance” doesn’t sound like you are begging for money. It is a dance to give you a little bit better honeymoon.

We talked about the dollar dance in our list of do not play wedding songs. Suffice it to say, that this decision is up to you and how you want to approach your wedding ceremony. If it is a huge part of your culture, then do it.

The dollar dance doesn’t have to have the word “dollar” in it. It doesn’t even have to be slow. We have a ton of songs like “Brown Eyed Girl” that are fun dancing songs and even “I Will Always Love You” on the list that’s nice and slow. Make sure to talk to your wedding planner and DJ to find the best song — or songs — for this special time.

Do you see any that we missed? Comment on the post with the song you suggest along with the one it should replace.
