Casi Joy Interview About Her Wedding Song “I Do”

Casi Joy is an American music artist that burst into the mass public eye in 2017 when she appeared on the TV show The Voice. My Wedding Songs was fortunate to get an exclusive interview about her music career and her recently released wedding song I Do.

Here is a glimpse of Casi singing Blue on The Voice trying to get the judges to turn their chairs.

Casi Joy Interview

Since being on the TV show The Voice, how has your music career changed after millions of people watching?

Since being on The Voice, I have been SO busy! My husband Bryan and I have been traveling the country on tour since the show, and it’s been amazing! It opened so many doors for me, and I’m so grateful for that opportunity.

Your wedding ceremony is typically a high-stress event. When did you decide to increase that stress and sing to your almost-husband?

I think I’ve always kind of imagined myself singing at my wedding since I was little. I get very nervous talking to people or public speaking, so this was my way to really show how I feel the best way I communicate: through song. It definitely added to the stress, because I literally never sang the song out loud before the ceremony, but I’m so glad we have that memory now.

What is the meaning and story behind the song I Do?

This was seriously such a hard song to write. I wanted it to be personal to us, but I also had to remember that I wasn’t just writing a love song. It had to be my vows; some kind of promise. I wanted it to be both personal to us, but also able to be personal for other couples. So that’s why I have the little part toward the end about parking powers and back scratches. I wanted us to have our special part in there. That’s what’s so neat about songwriting. I remember writing the part about picking up Bryan’s socks, and I was so excited to see his reaction to each line. I also knew from the beginning that I was going to make this a surprise. I am seriously addicted to surprises. But that definitely put a wrench in everything, because Bryan and I LITERALLY spend every second together! So I had to record some of the parts in my car, and I never got to sing the song out loud until “showtime!” Talk about nervous!

I Do is so relatable to so many bridal couples. Did you intend to share your wedding story with others when writing the song?

I think I did. I wanted to make it personal to us, but not so personal that others couldn’t relate. Our story has been such a beautiful one since the beginning, so I definitely want to share our love story with the world. We have such a special relationship, and I love that others have kind of latched on to that. I’m so lucky to have Bry in my life and to share this crazy ride with him.

How did the concept of the video come about?

I didn’t really plan to do a video for the song until I put our honeymoon video together. After that, and once I got the song fully produced, I had the idea. We already had the footage from the wedding, so why not combine it all? I also am just such a sucker for music videos and the way that music goes along with pictures to tell a story. So that was really cool for me to get to put the video together exactly how I wanted it to go with the song. It’s just perfect, and I think it really lets our love shine through.

Who are a few of the musicians you idolize and why?

I love all the greats. Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly, Tanya Tucker, The Judds. I was brought up singing old country, so that’s definitely where my influences come from. However, I do love listening to all types of music.

If you were to create a playlist for your car today, who would be some of the artists? Would there be any surprises?

Ha! My music taste is seriously all over the place. I’ll have Keith Urban, Patsy Cline, Tegan and Sarah, Rob Zombie, and Taking Back Sunday in the same playlist. I just love SONGS. It doesn’t matter the style. If it moves me, I’m into it.

You were recently married. Congratulations! What wedding planning advice would you give?

My advice would be to take in every single moment. Looking back, I feel like the day just flew by! And don’t stress about the little stuff! I wish I would have seen Bryan more on our wedding day too, (soooo many guests) so I would say make sure that you have time set aside to really have that newlywed moment together. It’s such a crazy day! Bryan didn’t even get to eat! haha. But it was still the most perfect day. I want to do it all again!!!

What were the most memorable events at your wedding?

Probably me singing, and then the rain! It rained all day (like a monsoon) except for our 20-minute ceremony! It was the craziest thing.

Are you writing new music and planning any other song releases?

Absolutely! I’m always writing. I’m trying to decide what song to release next, but just know it’s coming! I’m also working on a Christmas album in Nashville right now, so be on the lookout for that!
