As a professional wedding DJ, I was excited to check out this new book by noted wedding music expert Matthew Campbell.
What I particularly enjoyed about this book:
1) The 70-plus pages are loaded with timely playlists that contain a smart mixture of modern and classic wedding songs. Matt also lists “trending” songs as per Tik Tok and other pop culture sources. “Wedding Songs Planner” covers from Frank Sinatra right up to 2023 Bad Bunny, and everything in between!
2) the large workbook style promotes the circling and crossing off songs, plus jotting notes in the spacious margins. The book is well-constructed and durable.
3) In addition to tackling popular song categories like “First Dance” “Grand Entrance” and “Cake Cutting,” the author covers less common song categories like “Brother-Sister Dance”, “Combined Parent Dance” and special musical categories like “Reggae Wedding Songs” “Country Wedding Songs” and “Latin Wedding Songs.” Matt’s deep selection of song categories will help DJs of all skill levels to patch in any musical blind spots. He also covers top wedding songs of past decades from the 1940s to the 2010s.
This book is sure to spark the creativity of couples planning a wedding. Wedding DJs of all experience levels can benefit from this book, even gifting it to clients as a resource. After purchasing my initial copy, I bought an additional 4 copies to distribute to our staff. My original copy sits in our office meeting room so that when a client asks, “hey, do you have any song ideas for bouquet toss songs?” then I can quickly share some popular song ideas.
In summary, I highly recommend Matt Campbell’s “Wedding Songs Planner” (2023 Edition)
