With the recent divorce announcements of celebrity couples Miranda Lambert/Blake Shelton and Jennifer Garner/Ben Affleck, my heart breaks for them. Being a celebrity and having your life under a microscope by paparazzi photo seekers, media and the powerful public opinion MUST be extremely difficult.
Needless to say, I would not want to switch places from my unknown life with that of a celebrity and there constant attention. However, whether a celebrity likes it or not, they are role models to the many people of the world. Yes, it is understood that we all have our faults, as a result, we must all work through them.
The current divorce rate in America is between 40-50%. However, the divorce rate percentage increases as individuals re-marry in their second and third marriages. The good news is that in recent years the divorce rate is decreasing. The one fact of reality is that same-sex marriages are not included in these statistics. It will be very interesting to see how the statistics change over the next few years now that same sex marriages are legal nationwide.
What Marriage Should Be
As to the main point of this article, what marriage should be. Lets discuss this further. When couples enter into a marriage, they are in love and think the marriage will last forever. Why else get married if it is not forever? But do people really put 200% into their marriages? Yes, 200%! 100% from each spouse.
Lets set aside moral reasoning as we do not want to judge others on morality such as infidelity, abuse and addictions. Each spouse must look within and decide for themselves if each wants to or is able to forgive, heal and change. On the other side, I would like to speak of the other, non-moral reasons for divorce.
No one said life would be easy. Each and every day has its own struggles whether at work, at home, with the kids, etc. Couples must work together as a team and communicate your thoughts and feelings in order to have a forever bond with each other and enjoy the good times and work through the bad times. Love can conquer all as a couple no matter how “bad” things may seem. God does not give you anything you cannot handle.
So, as celebrity marriages progress through time, I hope they are able to work through their issues and stay together until death do they part. We only wish the best for celebrity couples like Beyonce/Jay-Z and Faith Hill/Tim McGraw as they continue to be marriage role models for the masses.
