Welcome to episode number 72 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matthew Campbell. And today I’m gonna be talking about 100 songs to play while you’re cutting your wedding cake at your wedding reception. Now, if you prefer to read the list or listen to the list you can do so on our website, MyWeddingSongs.com, just go to the main menu under song ideas, and the link is right there. And while you’re there, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter, the music letter as we call it. It’s a monthly newsletter of all of the new songs released in the prior month that are perfect for weddings and also other unique wedding songs to play and add to your wedding day playlist. So I will be giving these songs today by genre, starting off with rock, and then I will list them by the year that they were released, starting with the newest.

So like I said, the first genre is rock. And the first song released this year of 2022 by Surf Curse is called “Sugar” If you’re looking for a more upbeat alternative rock song to play. Next up in 2013 is the very popular wedding song “Best Day Of My Life” by American Authors with the lyrics…this is gonna be the best day of my life. In 2010 Train released “marry Me” with the lyrics…now that the wait is over, and love has finally showed her my way. Marry me. Also in 2010, One Republic released “Good Life” with the lyrics…When everything is out, you gotta take it in, oh, this has gotta be the good life. In 2008, Michael Franti & Spearhead released “Say, Hey, I Love You”, for a more uptempo song, with the lyrics…The more I see the less I know, but I know one thing, that I love you, baby girl, I love you. I love you. I love you.

In 2005, Jack Johnson released “Better Together” with the lyrics…And there is no combination of words I could say, but I will still tell you one thing we’re better together. Going along with the cake theme, in 2001 the group Cake released “Love You Madly” with the lyrics…When I kiss your lips, I want to sink deep down to the bottom of the sea. I want to love you madly. In 2000, U2 released “Beautiful Day” with the lyrics… It’s a beautiful day. Don’t let it get away. Also by U2 in 1998, “The Sweetest Thing” with the lyrics,..you know, I got black eyes, but they burnso brightly for her. This is a blind kind of love. Oh, oh, oh, the sweetest thing.

The next song may not be appropriate for every wedding, but if you’re a Hair Band fan, then “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard. And in 1984, Spinal Tap released “Cups and Cakes” (if you’re having cupcakes for your wedding cake) with the lyrics…cups and cakes, cups and cakes, I’m so full my tummy aches. In 1984, Tina Turner released “Better Be Good to Me”. I guess you could really have this as a theme so that way you don’t get smashed in the face with cake. This includes the lyrics…and I don’t have no use for what you loosely call the truth. You better be good to me. Another theme song is “Cuts Like a Knife” by Brian Adams in 1983. In 1980, Pat Benatar with “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” if you are gonna do the smashing of the cake. In 1975, Aerosmith released “Sweet Emotion” with the lyrics…Well, I got good news. She’s got a real good liar. Cuz the backstage boogie sets your pants on fire, sweet emotion. To complete our rock suggestions is the Beatles “All You Need Is Love” in 1967 and in 1963 “Sugar Shack” by Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs with the lyrics,..you can understand why I’ve got to get back to that sugar shack.
