Breast Cancer. Over our lifetime everyone will have contact with someone with breast cancer, whether it is a loved one, a friend, a neighbor, or even being given the diagnosis ourselves. Breast cancer touches everyone in one way or another. Every October, we see flyers for walks, armbands on football players, pins on T-shirts, and fundraising drives to benefit new research. All of this in honor of a disease that’s highly recognizable, if not deeply familiar.
Everyone knows what that pink ribbon represents. On October 25, 2015 the American Cancer Society will be holding its annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk to raise money to support cancer research. What does this walk represent? To the thousand who walk and raise money it is a small way to help support those in our lives who have fought, and those still fighting, this terrible disease.
What do those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer see? Maybe they see people in their lives come out of the woodwork to help support them, or others that move further away. Cancer is scary not just to those afflicted but also to those around them. They may see that breast cancer is not an “easy” cancer and that cancer is just part of their story not their whole story. Everyone faces this obstacle differently, but one thing that we all see when we walk to fight breast cancer is unity. Everyone fighting for the same cause – eradicate cancer. Please join us on Sunday October 25, 2015 to help raise money and awareness to fight breast cancer. The walk will be held at Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas.
