The song broke the Billboard record for the longest standing number-one song on the Hot 100 for NINETEEN WEEKS (overtaking Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s song “One Sweet Day” 1995–1996).
Latin music continues to grow in popularity too with hits with stars rising like Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, and ROSALÍA.
We continue to see a rise of K-pop and now J-pop in mainstream music tastes with artists like Perfume, BLACKPINK, BTS, and MONSTA X.
Several musician deaths in 2019 brought a surge in downloads of their music; James Ingram, Eddie Money, Nipsey Hussle, Juice WRLD, and Rick Ocasek of The Cars.
The movie Bohemian Rhapsody released in early November 2018 and carried over a surge in Queen‘s music into 2019. The release of Rocketman in May of 2019 saw an increase in downloads of Elton John‘s songs. The end of November 2019 saw the release of Frozen 2 film that will have kids singing again.
