Zappos Core Values as Songs

In memory of Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO & Visionary

“No matter what your past has been, you have a spotless future.”
Tony Hsieh

Zappos is an online shoe and accessories shop. The headquarters will be located in downtown Las Vegas in October 2013. Zappos’ focus is on customer satisfaction and company culture. In an effort to help promote one of the best companies that care about their customers and employees, we assembled a list of songs that represent each of Zappo’s core values.

10. Be Humble

It’s Hard To Be Humble – Mac Davis
The song has a bit of a comedic twist but hits the nail on the head. There is always someone in the world that is faster, smarter, stronger… better.

Oh Lord It’s hard to be humble,
But I’m doing the best that I can

9. Be Passionate and Determined

Lose Yourself – Eminem
If you do not have a passion for what you do you will not succeed in the long term. We also must be determined and refuse to take no for an answer no matter how many times we get knocked down.

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime

8. Do More With Less

It’s My Life – Bon Jovi
We all need the motivation sometimes to try harder and put in the extra effort. It’s a great rock song to get you pumped up. “It’s my life. It’s now or never. I ain’t gonna live forever”.

Like Frankie said, “I did it my way”
I just want to live while I’m alive
It’s my life

7. Build A Positive Team and Family Spirit

Love Can Build A Bridge – The Judds
We picked this song because it is sung by a mother and daughter duo. Love can also build a bridge and respect between two people. IT creates a family atmosphere in the workplace.

Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don’t you think it’s time?

6. Build Open and Honest Relationships with Communication

Honesty – Billy Joel
All of us want in every communication is for the other person to be honest with us. As the song says “Honesty is hardly ever heard, And Mostly what I need from you”.

Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you

5. Pursue Growth and Learning

Learning To Fly – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Learning something new and challenging yourself can be difficult. However, these are needed to grow as a person. This is our favorite core value on the list and we must challenge ourselves to be better.

Well, some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I’ve started out for God-knows-where
I guess I’ll know when I get there

4. Be Adventurous, Creative, and Open-Minded

Free – Zac Brown Band
One of the greatest adventures any human can make is to take an unplanned road trip. Let the road take you where you want to go. This is what America is all about – being free to do what you want to do. Road trips are adventurous, you must have an open mind as to what to see and where to go, and you also must be creative to find places to eat and sleep.

Just as free
Free as we’ll ever be
So we live in our old van
Travel all across this land

3. Create Fun and a Little Weirdness

White & Nerdy – “Weird Al” Yankovic
Weird Al is the epitome of this core value. He stepped outside the box and made a name for himself by producing parody songs. The White and Nerdy songs have more than seventy million views on YouTube.

I wanna roll with
The gangsters
But so far they all think
I’m too white ‘n’ nerdy

2. Embrace and Drive Change

Changes – David Bowie
There are many interpretations of this song. No matter, whether you make changes yourself or not, the world will be changing around you. Therefore, you must be in the forefront of change or be left behind.

Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
There’s gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can’t trace time

1. Deliver WOW Through Service

I Want Candy – Bow Wow Wow
First and foremost the word Wow is in the group’s name. A great way to create a wow with your customers is to give them candy. Banks do this in stars by giving customers suckers. All kids know to get suckers at the bank.

He’s so fine, he can’t be beat
He’s got everything that I desire
Sets the summer sun on fire
I want candy
